Ruzairi is new UTHM vice-chancellor

JOHOR BARU: Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) today announced the appointment of Professor Dr Ruzairi Abdul Rahim as its new vice-chancellor.

The appointment, effective today (May 9), was made by Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad and is for a period of three years until May 8, 2025.

In a statement, UTHM said Ruzairi, 55, replaces Professor Datuk Dr White Razzaly.

He is a professor in the field of electronic instrumentation engineering and had served as the Dean of the Engineering Faculty of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).

He was previously UTHM's deputy vice-chancellor (research and innovation) from December 1, 2016 to November 30, 2019.

A doctorate holder from Sheffield Hallam University in the United Kingdom, Ruzairi is an expert in the field of process tomography and sensor technology and was named as Top Research Scientist Malaysia in 2013 by the Academy of Sciences Malaysia.

The Johor native began his career with UTM in 1998 and since then have accumulated 45 excellence awards at the university and international level.

He is also active in the publishing field including authoring books and journals and has supervised over 30 doctorate students as well as research project.

UTHM hope Ruzairi's experience would help propel the university as a Global Technopreneur University by 2030.
