KUCHING: The joy of having a dip in Sungai Rayu, Matang, near here, along with 12 other friends, turned tragic when a pair of siblings drowned this afternoon.
The two were identified as 17-year-old Lee Huai Fen, and her brother Lee Jun Suhia, 34.
Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department deputy director Tiong Ling Hii said Jun Suhia's body was found by the search and rescue (SAR) team at 5.48pm.
Huai Fen's body was found at 6.43pm by the Water Rescue Team who dived and searched at the bottom of the river.
"The department's Sarawak Operations Centre received a call regarding the incident at 3.01pm.
"Nine members from the Petra Jaya station and six Water Rescue Team members from the station in Batu Lintang were rushed to the location," he said.
The bodies of the two victims were handed over to police for further action.
