Selangor govt to announce chicken supply status on May 23

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government will announce the latest developments on the issue of insufficient chicken supply recently on Monday (May 23).

State Islamic Religious Affairs, Consumer Affairs and Halal Industry Committee chairman Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni said his party needed to discuss with the State Infrastructure, Public Amenities, Modernisation of Agriculture, and Agro-based Industry Committee chairman, Izham Hashim to find out the actual status of raw goods supply.

"We have to look at the data first. Is it because the supply element is lacking or maybe due to other factors.

"So this Monday we will see (the announcement on the status of chicken supply). I will first discuss with Izham what the problems are because the supply of chicken is under the Agriculture and Food Industries Ministry. The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry only takes care of the price of goods," he said.

He told reporters after the Closing Ceremony of the 1443 Hijrah Hajj Premier Course at the Selangor state level at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque, here.

Also present were Tabung Haji group managing director and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Amrin Awaluddin and Selangor Islamic Religious Council chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof.

Yesterday, the media reported that the chairman of the Selangor Poultry Breeders Association Idrus Zainal Abidin confirmed that there was no production of chickens from the farm today due to supply issues caused by sick chickens.

On Thursday, Izham, who commented on the supply of chicken in Selangor, said the people of the state did not have to worry about the matter as it was still under control, especially when the government had agreed not to impose an approved permit to import any foodstuff with immediate effect. -- BERNAMA
