China to explore investment opportunities, bilateral trade with Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: China has expressed interest in Sabah's oil palm industry and its investment opportunities.

Its Foreign Minister He Wang Yi said China was also ready to support any infrastructure development, that benefits both sides and contributes to the realisation of Sabah's dreams and aspirations.

He said this during a meeting with Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan when he visited the state capital here yesterday.

The two leaders discussed bilateral trade and potential investments into the Bornean state.

They also discussed issues on technology transfers in various fields particularly, agriculture and fisheries.

He said the Chinese government is always open to cooperation with its neighbours.

The Chinese and Sabah governments have enjoyed cordial and amicable relations for many years.

Kitingan meanwhile, told He of the Sabah government's plans to reduce poverty in the rural areas including building more infrastructure, particularly telecommunications, to accelerate the growth of Sabah's digital economy.

Both parties agreed to develop a new road map to structure a bilateral agenda with the goal of strengthening economic and cultural ties and contributing to peace and security in Sabah.

Also present were Sabah Chief Minister's political secretary Datuk Dr Roland Chia and China's consul general in Kota Kinabalu Huang Shifang.
