MRS proposes for more ethnic songs to be played at state functions

KOTA KINABALU: Local singers have proposed to the Sabah government to use 40 per cent of their ethnic songs during official functions.

The proposal was presented by Music Rights Sabah (MRS) Bhd managing director Asmin Mudin during a courtesy call on Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Dr Joachim Gunsalam at Wisma Kewangan here today.

During the meeting, Asmin along with four other officers from various sections, briefed the minister on the functions and responsibilities of MRS.

Dr Joachim, who is state Industrial Development Minister gave positive feedback to the proposal, and hoped MRS would continue to help creative and art enthusiasts to increase their productivity in line with the Sabah Maju Jaya Roadmap.

Dr Joachim also expressed his support for MRS to achieve their goal of getting royalties that commensurate with their creativity efforts.

MRS is the sole collector and distributor of royalties for local ethnic songs in Sabah and Labuan, and it has been recognised by the federal government since January this year.
