Seven deaths, 3,079 new Covid-19 cases yesterday

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia recorded 3,079 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday, pushing the total number of active cases to 42,185.

Only one new case was imported, while the remaining were local transmissions.

According to the CovidNow portal, daily cases have been declining steadily since the country clocked 5,230 new infections on July 15.

A total of 4,588,222 have been infected by Covid-19 since March 2020 and 4,548,014 people have recovered.

Seven people died due to Covid-19 on Monday, including three brought-in-dead cases. The virus has claimed 35,862 lives so far.

On average, two new Covid-19 cases are detected for every 1,000 people and two deaths are recorded for every one million people in the country over the last two weeks.

A total 545 Covid-19 patients were admitted to hospitals nationwide on Monday. At present, 1,472 patients are undergoing treatment for Covid-19 at hospitals.

There are 57 patients in Intensive Care Units (ICU) where 37 are on ventilator support.

On vaccinations, almost half of the country's population or 16,165,730 people have received their first booster shots. On Monday, 8,032 people received their second booster jab.
