CAMERON HIGHLANDS: A French tourist died while hiking Gunung Jasar in Tanah Rata near here today.
Marc Antoine Anne Marie, 52, was hiking towards the peak with nine other friends and a mountain guide when he suddenly collapsed about 10.20am.
Pahang Fire and Rescue Department public relations officer Zulfadli Zakaria said the victim and his team members started the climb about 8.20am.
"The group was nearing the peak when the victim suddenly collapsed. The MERS 999 received a distress call about the incident about 10.28am. Six firemen along with policemen and Civil Defence Force members were deployed to the scene.
"Upon arrival, the rescue operation commander immediately performed CPR on the victim but he did not respond. The victim was carried on a stretcher towards the foot of the hill before paramedics confirmed his death," he said in a statement today.
Zulfadli said the police were alerted about the incident and the remains were taken to the Sultanah Hajjah Kalsom Hospital here.
It is learnt that the victim was part of a group which consisted of four French nationals, four Italians, one Norwegian and a local tour guide.
