French man who lost his way while hiking found safe

BALIK PULAU: A French man was found safe more than eight hours after he got lost while hiking at the Penang National Park in Teluk Bahang here yesterday.

Younes Oukali, 37, had made an emergency call about 6.07pm to alert the authority that he was lost.

Following that, the fire and rescue department launched a search for the foreigner.

Teluk Bahang fire and rescue station head Mohd Faiz Helmi said besides hiking, they also used a boat from the National Park to get to Teluk Kampi.

"The victim could be contacted through his cell phone.

"We managed to rescue him about 1.22am today. He was tired but was not injured," he said today.

Mohd Faiz said the victim was sent to the hospital for further checks.

The operation, which involved 17 officers and firemen, ended at 4.58am.
