Learning Mandarin to overcome language barriers

KUALA LUMPUR: The Kunkwan International Mandarin Training Centre is celebrating the graduation of 30 students from its Mandarin course.

Kunkwan founder Kent Ng said learning a new language could help people overcome language barriers.

"This increases opportunities for everyone to thrive in their future career or businesses.

"We focus on spoken Mandarin. So more speaking assignments are provided to students, which will help them improve significantly.

"This provides great value to those who are taking part in this course," he said in his speech.

Present was celebrity Dr Soo Wincci.

Soo encouraged everyone not to be afraid of learning new things despite facing challenges.

"We can contribute more if we have more knowledge. Always be willing to teach others," she said at the graduation ceremony.

Student representative Farah Hidayu Abdul Rahman, 35, said she was grateful to Kunkwan for helping her realise her dream of learning a new language.

The pharmacist at Selayang Hospital said she wanted to overcome the language barrier she had with Chinese patients.

"Before I started learning Mandarin, it was difficult for me to understand what some patients needed as some of them do not speak English or Malay.

"It is why I enrolled at Kunkwan. It has helped me achieve my goal."
