Several major KL roads to be closed from Aug 26 for National Day parade

KUALA LUMPUR: Several major routes in the capital will be closed between Aug 26-29 and Aug 31 to make way for the National Day celebration.

City police chief Datuk Azim Kassim said the road closures would take place from 6am to midnight.

He said Jalan Sultan Hishamuddin and Jalan Raja would be closed on Aug 26 for the rehearsal for the parade.

Jalan Raja, Jalan Travers, Jalan Damansara, the Jalan Hishamuddin roundabout and Jalan Kinabalu will be closed Aug 27-29 for the full rehearsal.

"Eighteen routes in total will be closed on Merdeka Day. Other roads that will be closed include Jalan Kuching, the Dato Onn roundabout, Jalan Tun H.S. Lee, Jalan Hang Lekiu, Jalan Hang Kasturi, Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Jalan Raja Laut, Jalan Munshi Abdullah, Jalan Dang Wangi and Jalan Bunus," Azim said in a statement today.

He advised those who wish to attend the Merdeka Day parade to use public transportation.

"For those who wish to drive, parking lots are limited. Parking will be made available at the public parking area near Masjid India, in front of the Dang Wangi district police headquarters, Jalan Sultan Salahuddin area and the multi-level parking near (federal police headquarters in) Bukit Aman.

"E-hailing drivers are advised to drop off their passengers at the Masjid India and Jalan Parlimen areas."
