2 killed, 4 injured as SUV plunges down 48m-deep ravine in Lahad Datu

LAHAD DATU: Two men died and four people were injured when their vehicle plunged down a 48m-deep ravine in an incident in Jalan Silam, here.

The deceased victims, in their 30s, were the driver and one of the passengers of the Toyota Fortuner.

Of the four injured, one was an 18-year-old man, and the others were women. All have yet to be identified.

A Fire and Rescue Department operations centre spokesman said they received an emergency call at 6.20pm.

He said seven firemen with machinery and a Emergency Medical Rescue Service unit from the Lahad Datu station were sent to the location.

"When they arrived at the location, it was found that a Toyota Fortuner had plunged into a 48m-deep ravine.

"There were six victims – three men and three women. The three injured women were taken by the public (to the hospital) before we arrived at the scene.

"Two male victims were confirmed dead at the scene by Health personnel, while another man injured his leg," he said in a media statement today.

The remains of two victims were handed over to the police.
