Fake messages spread again on children being abducted, organs sold

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have denied claims on social media that children have been abducted for their organs.

Federal police corporate communications head Superintendent A. Skandaguru said a check found the fake message had been reposted on several social media platforms of late.

He said the fake message was the same one which was spread in 2017 regarding six children who were said to have been abducted and smuggled into a neighbouring country for their organs to be harvested and sold.

"The message supposedly asked the public to be on alert regarding the kidnapping incident involving a group of children.

"The children are said to have been given prohibited substances which made them unable to speak, making it easier for them to be taken away on a chicken truck to a neighbouring country for organ transplantation.

"The message also claimed that the authorities inspected the lorry and found six children," he said in a statement today.

Skandaguru confirmed police had not received any police report related to the kidnapping and sale of children's organs as alleged.

"People are advised not to be easily taken in and spread unfounded as well as unverified news.

"Any individual found spreading false news can be investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities," he said.
