Malaysia, Brunei value existing cooperation, seeking to explore new potentials

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam will assess the progress of existing cooperation while the two Asean nations explore new potentials to improve existing ties to benefit both countries.

The matter will be realised in conjunction with the Sultan of Brunei Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah's Special Visit to Malaysia today said a statement from the Foreign Ministry.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will receive the Brunei ruler for the first time after he was appointed as the 10th Prime Minister of Malaysia on Nov 24.

Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah's last visit to Kuala Lumpur was from March 4 to 6, 2019 to attend the 22nd Annual Leaders' Talk between Malaysia and Brunei.

"Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam have a special relationship that has been established for a long time through common heritage, culture and human relations.

"Building on this special relationship, both leaders will take the opportunity of this visit to take stock of the progress of existing cooperation as well as explore new potentials for a more comprehensive partnership that can mutually benefit the two countries," said the statement.

The Prime Minister will also host a luncheon for Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, Pengiran Muda 'Abdul Mateen Bolkiah and their entourage.

Brunei Darussalam is Malaysia's 30th largest trading partner in 2021 and the sixth largest in the Asean bloc with a trade of RM8.03 billion (US$1.94 billion).
