KUALA LUMPUR: Titiwangsa Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani is continuing his efforts to seek a solution to the problems faced by house and flats unit owners as well as residents of Kampung Sungai Baru flats here, who have yet to move out from their residences.
In the latest move, the former Finance Minister II held a four-hour-long dialogue with residents to discuss the problems plaguing them.
Johari said the dialogue session is important for him to get real input directly from the residents on the problems and predicaments that they are facing.
"I also brought (along) a lawyer to make it easier for them to get legal advice on any questions and problems involving legal issues transparently," he said in a Facebook posting.
Previously, Johari was reported to have said that the residents in the Malay enclave in the heart of the federal capital would need at least six months to find a new place to live.
"I suggest to owners who need more time to move to make a letter of appeal to the Land & Mines Department and the developer.
"I will support each of those applications. A meeting has also been held with the mayor to help place the remaining residents who have yet to find a house to move to so that they can be placed in a Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) public housing," he said.
Johari said he will also appoint a lawyer to represent 90 per cent of the owners who have moved from the area, to monitor the developer's progress and that the project kicks off immediately, thus ensuring that the new residential units are returned to the owners who have been waiting for so long.
He adds the owners who had been fully compensated by the developer should also be offered the new residential units if they are interested in buying when it is completed.
Johari criticised the lack of good coordination between the developer, elected representative and the Federal Territories Ministry before this when the owners were ordered to move in 2019 and caused the matter to become "complicated" when more than 90 per cent had agreed to move.
