Pakej Perpaduan fixed Internet broadband package at RM69 a month launched

KUALA LUMPUR: The government today launched the 'Pakej Perpaduan Fixed Internet Broadband', which is affordable broadband for the Bottom 40 per cent, disabled and elderly.

Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the package, priced at RM69 per month, will provide Internet speeds of up to 30Mbps with unlimited data and will be available beginning next month.

He said 'Pakej Perpaduan' was aimed at helping the lower income target group to enjoy cheaper fixed Internet broadband, with up to 30Mbps speed. The package comes with a 24-month subscription contract.

"In line with the Unity Government's commitment to lower the cost of living, the ministry has introduced this Perpaduan (unity) Fixed Internet Broadband targeted at helping the B40 group, veterans, the disabled and the elderly at a lower price.

"The price of this package is 22 per cent cheaper than the existing packages price, which is RM89.00 for the same speed. Subscribers of the Perpaduan package will enjoy RM480 savings throughout the contract period," he said in a statement.

Fahmi said the Perpaduan package is a collaboration with fixed broadband service providers namely Telekom Malaysia (TM), Celcom, Digi, Maxis, U Mobile, YTL, TIME Bhd and Astro.

"This initiative is in line with the government's promise to lower the cost of living, mainly among B40 and the targeted groups," he added.

He said the initiative was proof that the unity government and service providers are truly paying attention to the needs and welfare of the people.

He said the government was striving to ensure more comprehensive digital connectivity, which is provided at lower prices in line with the concept of Malaysia Madani.

Last month, Fahmi had announced that the government would be introducing the fixed-line Internet Unity Package, which was specifically for the B40.

He had said that the Communications and Digital Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohammad Mentek had been directed to hold negotiations with the relevant parties concerning the package.
