BENTONG: A disabled senior citizen died in a fire at Kampung Pelantar here at around 9pm last night.
The deceased, Mohd Yusof Idris from Kampung Paya Pelantar here, was found sprawled in the room next to the window.
It is understood that the victim was a bachelor who lived on his own in the house.
The fire destroyed about 90 per cent of the semi-permanent house.
A spokesperson for the Fire and Services Department said that a distress call came in at 9.02pm and a team of firemen arrived at the scene about 16 minutes later.
The firemen managed to bring the flames under control by 9.27pm.
"Seventeen firemen from the Karak and Bentong stations were involved in the operation to put out the fire," said the spokesperson.
