Senior citizen killed by falling rock while driving in Tenom

TENOM: A man tragically lost his life when his vehicle was crushed by a rock that fell from a hill in Kuala Tomani, Mansaam, earlier today.

The victim, Ho Ka Cheong, 66, was confirmed dead at the scene by the medical personnel.

Tenom Fire and Rescue Department (BBP) Chief Assistant Fire Officer, Zainal Sinsian, said a team of officers was dispatched to the location, which is 55 kilometers away from here, to conduct rescue operations upon receiving a call at 12.27pm.

"The incident involved a four-wheeled vehicle being crushed by a rock falling from the hill, and there was a male victim inside the said car.

"The fire brigade team conducting the operation had to stop after traveling 45km and then travel another 10km by public transport to reach the location via an unpaved road, namely the timber truck route," he said when contacted today.

He said that upon arriving at the location, the operation to extricate the victim was immediately carried out, and the victim was handed over to medical personnel.

He added that the entire operation was concluded at 3.22pm.
