Spanish court dismissal decision on alleged heirs of Sultan Sulu shows their claims are baseless: Hajiji

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has welcomed the Spanish Court decision to dismiss an appeal by alleged heirs of Sulu Sultan in relation to their compensation of Sabah.

"This shows that the claim is just baseless.

"This will calm the feeling of Sabah people and the state," he said, during the handover of four-wheel drive vehicles for the 21 Community Development leaders (UPPM) unit offices at Menara Kinabalu here.

Yesterday, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said said that the decision effectively ended the claimants' judicial strategy in Spain.

She also added that the government had received official confirmation that the constitutional appeal filed by the claimants was rejected and as a result, the annulment of Dr Gonzalo Stampa's appointment, which was already final and binding, had also been confirmed by the Spanish Constitutional Court.

Earlier, Hajiji said that those vehicles were for the use of UPPM officers to reach out to more people especially at the villages in the state.

"We have gained the trust, everyone knows the situation of the government.

"I am hoping for those who still have other intentions to instead focus on matters that will benefit the state like development and unity of the people."

Also present was state secretary Datuk Seri Safar Untong.
