Kelantan fireman dies a day after motorcycle crash

KOTA BARU: A 35-year-old Kelantan Fire and Rescue officer died this morning, a day after being involving in a road crash in Tumpat.

Mohd Mohaimi Mohammad died about 4.42am while being treated at the Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital (HUSM) in Kubang Kerian.

Pengkalan Kubor Fire and Rescue station chief Anuar Yaacob said the victim was riding a motorcycle from his home in Rantau Panjang and heading to Pengkalan Kubor when the crash occured at Kampung Jal Besar, Tumpat about 7.46pm yesterday.

"The victim had lost control of the bike when trying to avoid a car which suddenly come out from a junction.

"This resulted in his bike plunging into a nearby drain . The victim also fell into the drain and was later rescued by other motorists.

"He was ushed to the hospital but pronounced death about 20 hours after admission."

Anuar said Mohaimi had served with the department for about 18 years, and leaves a wife and three children.

Later, about 100 family members attended his final rites in Kampung Tok Sangkut, near Pasir Mas before he was laid to rest after Friday prayers today.
