Khairy: AGC privy to vaccine procurement as it went through cabinet

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin dismissed accusations that the procurement of the Covid-19 vaccine did not obtain approval from the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC).

Khairy said all purchases made by the government during the then Perikatan Nasional administration were brought to the cabinet.

"Therefore, the AGC would be privy and provide their comments. Procurement was signed off by KKM (Health Ministry)," he said in a brief text reply to the New Straits Times today.

This was Khairy's immediate response to a statement by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on the irregularities found in the procurement of the Covid-19 vaccine, which will be among the issues included in the white paper to be tabled by the Health Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa in the upcoming Parliament sitting.

Anwar had said the procurement of the vaccines among others, did not obtain the approval of AGC.

NST is still trying to contact former health minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba on the matter.
