30Mbps home Internet plan at RM69 per month launched for B40 group, pensioners, disabled persons

SUNGAI PETANI: The unity govt today launched an affordable broadband home Internet with a speed of up to 30Mbps at RM69 per month, about 22 per cent cheaper than the current market price.

The package, offered to those in the B40 group, government pensioners and disabled persons, was launched by Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil in Taman Sri Wang here.

"This Unity Fixed Broadband Integration Package for home Internet is an initiative of the ministry in collaboration with fixed broadband service providers namely Telekom Malaysia (TM), CelcomDigi, Maxis and YTL.

"This package offers services with speed of up to 30Mbps and unlimited data priced at only RM69 per month, plus a 24-month subscription contract.

"The package price offered is 22 per cent cheaper than the current package price of around RM89 with the same specifications. This allows the subscribers to enjoy savings of RM480 throughout the contract period," he said after the launching ceremony.

Present were the ministry's secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohammad Mentek, Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) chief operating officer Datuk Mohd Ali Hanafiah Mohd Yunus and Telekom Malaysia chief corporate and regulatory officer Tengku Muneer Tengku Muzani.

Commenting further, Fahmi said the rolling out of the package was in line with the unity government's commitment to lower the cost of living of target groups especially the B40 families, Malaysian Armed Forces veterans, police retirees, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency retirees, disabled persons and senior citizens.

He added that those eligible for the package could apply directly with the five participating companies from today and it will be available beginning April.

"This initiative also proves the unity government's commitment in ensuring more comprehensive digital connectivity at lower prices in line with the Malaysia Madani concept," he said.
