KUALA LUMPUR: The vocalist of popular local rock band XPDC, Mael died about 9.30pm last night at a hospital in Muar, Johor. He was 55.
Mael's real name is Syed Ismail Syed Ibrahim.
This was confirmed by his daughter, Sharifah Irfatasha, who said that her father had been hospitalised after being ill earlier today.
"It is with great sorrow and sadness that my dear father Syed Ismail Syed Ibrahim, 55, died on Thursday, April 27, at about 9.30pm at Muar Hospital," she said via a WhatsApp message, without elaborating.
It is understood that Mael experienced shortness of breath before he was brought to hospital after Maghrib prayers.
The sad news was also shared by XPDC's manager, who is known as Bro Yazid, who posted the sad news on his Facebook account.
"Innalillahiwainnahirojiun. Al-Fatihah. XPDC's vocalist, Syed Ismail Syed Ibrahim (Mael) breathed his last breath at Hospital Muar at around 9.30pm," he wrote.
