Kluang boy dies from suspected heatstroke

KLUANG: A 12-year-old boy died at around 7am yesterday of suspected heatstroke.

The boy's father, Syahrol Azmi Mohd Hekak, 42, said that his second child, Airiel Syahren, was confirmed to have died by the attending doctor due to "septic shock secondary to meningoencephalitis" at Hospital Enche' Besar Hajjah Khalsom here.

He said that Airiel Syahren, the second of four siblings, showed symptoms of having a fever without sweat, muscle cramps, vomiting, constant urinating and passing motion at around 10pm on Sunday (April 30) night.

Syahrol Azmi said that initially three in the family including Airiel Syahren, a pupil of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Bandar Kluang, had the usual fever and they all took some medication.

"I asked them to sleep in the hall because the bedroom was rather chilly.

"After that, I heard noise coming from the hall. He was having a seizure," he said when met at their family home in Kampung Bentong here.

Syahrol Azmi said that the doctor explained to him that Airiel Syahren experienced symptoms of heatstroke where his kidneys were affected, compromised and there was also inflammation of the brain.

He said that their younger son, Aidil Syahren, 9, was currently stable and warded in hospital.

"My son has been laid to rest at the Kampung Bentong Muslim cemetery," he said.
