TVET Madani carnival receives encouraging response in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: Over 3,000 Sabahans attended the Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) Madani Carnival held in conjunction with the National Training Week (NTW) 2023.

Deputy Human Resources Minister Mustapha Sakmud said the country needs to provide access to high quality education and training to all segments of the society.

"This is to maximise the potential of each individual and accelerate the growth of the country," he said when launching the carnival at Masjid Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu today.

Through the carnival, he hoped the spirit of Malaysia Madani can be practiced and strengthens the TVET sector to become a key driver for the country.

"This is crucial to nurture a new generation of future Malaysian leaders," he said.

He also urged everyone, including the public and private sectors, higher education institutions, technical schools and students, to strengthen their cooperation and actively involve themselves in local human capital development.

Human Resources Development Corporation (HRD Corp) chief customer officer Wan Yon Shahima Wan Othman expressed hope that the NTW initiative would further strengthen the preparations to produce competent and competitive local human capital.

She also announced that the National Human Capital Conference & Exhibition (NHCCE) 2023 – Borneo Region will be held at Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) from July 4 to 5.

This is the first time HRD Corp is bringing its annual human capital conference to all principal regions in Malaysia, she said.

The carnival held in Kota Kinabalu saw the participation of the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), Social Security Organisation (SOCSO), Department of Skills Development (DS) and Department of Labour.

The agencies provided briefing sessions on occupational safety and health, the housewives' social security scheme, skills development and labour issues in Sabah.

The NTW held nationwide between May 22 and 28 is a week of nationwide training events and activities bringing together organisations and individuals from various backgrounds and industries for training and development opportunities.

It is the first of its kind initiative in the country, where training programmes are organised nationwide by individuals and organisations and offered for free to all Malaysians.

The carnival also featured important socio-economic activities such as the 'Program Ekonomi Negara Insaniah' by Ad Access and sleep management practice session by Prof Dr Louis Adailakam, chief executive officer of Alpha International Training and Consultancy Sdn Bhd.

There are also a talk by Universiti Malaysia Sabah as well as the 'Motivasi Tahfiz Madani' session.

The ministry and HRD Corp aim to offer 5,000 courses to 125,000 participants with a total of 500,000 training hours.

However, as of 5pm Friday, the number of courses has far exceeded the original target standing at 21,052. These included over 300 courses offered to Sabahans.
