KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional (BN) strategic communication director Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek today launched the "Laman Media" or media centre at the Umno General Assembly.

The centre located at Mawar Room, Level 2 of the Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre (WTC) provides various facilities for media organisations covering the assembly until Saturday.

Some 531 registered media personnel from 56 print and electronic media organisations, both local and international, are covering the general assembly.

The media centre houses print, electronic and social media platforms under one roof. Among them are the New Straits Times, Berita Harian and Harian Metro.

Also present at the launch was Umno strategic communication director Datuk Lokman Noor Adam, while New Straits Times was represented by its group editor Farrah Naz Karim and executive editor (content and digital) Sharanjit Singh.

Ahmad Shabery, in his speech, said the ongoing Umno general assembly will be a closely watched affair as the party is now part of the unity government.

"This is our first experience being in the unity and Malaysia Madani government.

"This assembly is where we discuss on the role that Umno can play in the current political landscape," he said.

After opening the media centre, Ahmad Shabery visited various organisations stationed there and exchanged greetings with media personnel.
