Kemaman by-election: Constituency will be govt's 'golden child' if BN's candidate secures victory- Shabery Cheek

KEMAMAN: The Kemaman parliamentary constituency will become the unity government's "golden child" if the voters here are daring enough to make changes on Dec 2.

Barisan Nasional (BN) strategic communications director Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek said the unity government has no members of parliament in Kelantan and Terengganu, which is only dominated by Pas elected representatives.

"When one dares to make a change, I am confident Kemaman will become the 'golden child' for listening (to calls to vote for BN). A BN victory during the by-election will end Pas' dominance in Terengganu.

"A win in Kemaman will see all the six Felda schemes in the constituency returning as fixed deposits for BN. This will also ensure Felda schemes becoming the 'golden child'... give this one opportunity to BN and there is nothing to lose to spread the message to friends to vote for BN," he said during his speech while campaigning at Felda Seberang Tayor in Air Putih here.

During the 15th general election last year, Pas won all eight parliamentary seats in Terengganu and 14 parliamentary seats in Kelantan.

Ahmad Shabery, who is also Felda chairman, had served as the Kemaman member of parliament for three consecutive terms before he lost in the 14th general election.

During the 15th general election (GE15) last year, BN's candidate suffered a 27,000-vote majority crushing defeat to Pas candidate Che Alias Hamid.

In the upcoming by-election, BN had chosen to pick General (Rtd) Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor as their direct candidate and not follow the conventional method of naming an individual from the party's hierarchy.

The Kemaman parliamentary seat by-election is a straight fight between Raja Mohamed Affandi and Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, who was picked to represent Perikatan Nasional.

The by-election was called following the decision of the Terengganu Election Court on Sept 26 to annul the victory of Pas candidate Che Alias in the GE15.
