PM approves RM8.9 million for Islamic institutions in Kedah

KUBANG PASU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the government has approved an RM8.9 million allocation for Islamic religious institutions in Kedah.

He said RM6.4 million of this allocation was announced earlier to fund the restoration and improvement of educational facilities in these institutions, including Al-Quran and Fardu Ain (Kafa) schools in the state.

"For Kedah, the unity government has approved RM604,180 for 36 Islamic educational institutions to fund teacher training courses and assistance in education equipment, such as desks, chairs, cabinets, projectors, whiteboards, book cabinets, and so on.

"On top of this, the unity government will contribute an additional RM1,985,000 to 28 tahfiz and religious schools registered with the authorities," he said during a speech at Sekolah Menengah Agama Nahdhah Hasanah's diamond jubilee here today.

Present were Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Mohd Na'im Mokhtar, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek and SMA Nahdhah Hasanah principle Mohd Jamil Sadaqi Tajuddin.

The prime minister also announced a RM2.94 million allocation to 588 mosques in 12 districts in Kedah which are registered with the State Islamic Religious Affairs Department for Hari Raya Aidiladha programmes.

Through the allocation, each mosque will be getting RM5,000.

In his speech, Anwar announced a RM1.2 million allocation for maintenance and upgrading work of SMA Nahdhah Hasanah.
