MERSING: A woman was killed and 16 others including three toddlers were severely injured in a three-vehicle pileup near Kampung Wak Salam along Jalan Mersing- Jamaluang near here early this morning.
All victims were rushed to the Mersing Hospital in ambulances and are recuperating well at press time.
District Fire and Rescue Department operation commander Anuar Hussine said in the 2.59am accident that occurred near Kampung Wak Salam here, one of the eight passengers travelling in a 4x4 pickup truck was killed.
There were four men, three women including the deceased, and a toddler in the truck. All of them were severely injured in the accident.
The remaining victims were three men in their 30s who were in a BMW and three men, and two toddlers in a Perodua Myvi.
Anuar said eight firemen took more than two hours to evacuate the victims from their respective vehicles to safety, while the deceased's body was handed over to the Mersing police for further action.
