Storm in KL uproots trees, causes traffic jam

KUALA LUMPUR: A thunderstorm in the city this evening uprooted trees along the Sprint Highway, near the National Institute of Public Administration (Intan), causing a massive jam.

The Kuala Lumpur Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department in a post on Facebook said trees were uprooted along the main road, Jalan Setia Bakti, Bukit Damansara near Intan and Sime Darby.

"The traffic is closed to all vehicles until the clean-up works are completed."

Earlier, Facebook user Lionel Ho in a post said; "PSA: Two enormous trees fell and blocked all lanes of Hartamas-Sprint Highway outside Intan.

"Cars are making u-turn and the police are trying to direct the chaos. Plan your journey accordingly."

Meanwhile, @SPRINTtrafik in a post at 4.08pm on X application said; "Big trees were uprooted at KM4.6 and KM5.2 heading south (Kerinchi Link). Hartamas to the National Science Centre.

"The main road was closed. Road users are being directed to an alternative route to Petaling Jaya."

In another post at 6.10pm, it said that the cleaning up works of the uprooted trees had been completed.

"The main road is now open, with the Intan slip road still closed."
