Mandatory health checks for all MPs, says Dewan Rakyat Speaker

KUALA LUMPUR: Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul has instructed all 222 members of parliament (MP) to conduct health checks, stressing that it will be compulsory.

Johari said this as he raised concerns regarding the health condition involving MPs as there have been cases that have led to death.

"Therefore, I have instructed the Health Ministry that regular health checks should be conducted on all members of the Dewan Rakyat so that continuous health monitoring is carried out to ensure good health.

"For your information, this health check is compulsory for all members and the deadline to carry out the health check is Tuesday, Oct 31," he said.

Johari added that during his 15 years as an MP, he had witnessed a total of 11 MPs die during the period.

Therefore, he insisted that all MPs visit health clinics in Parliament and private facilities to undergo examinations as detailed in the letter sent to them yesterday.
