Penang hospitals told to facilitate, assist Singaporean tourists involved in fatal crash

GEORGE TOWN: The Penang and Balik Pulau hospitals have been instructed to facilitate and assist those involved in last night's crash in Jalan Teluk Kumbar-Bukit Genting, Balik Pulau.

This, state Health Committee chairman Daniel Gooi said, is to assist them in the recovery from the said accident.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims as well as their family and friends," he said.

Last night, a Singaporean tourist was killed while nine others were injured, including four seriously, when the van they were travelling in skidded and fell into a 6m-deep ravine while descending a slope in Jalan Teluk Kumbar-Bukit Genting.

Also injured was the van driver, a local man.

They included three men and eight women. The deceased was a woman.

The injured were taken to both hospitals in Penang and Balik Pulau.

Meanwhile, Gooi also urged the public not to circulate photos of the accident site as a sign of respect to those involved.
