Man cheats death as uprooted tree crushes car

YAN: A man had a close shave with death when his Perodua Kelisa was crushed by an uprooted tree in Gunung Jerai here this evening.

The 27-year-old driver miraculously managed to crawl out from the mangled compact car in the 6.50pm incident.

Guar Chempedak fire station operations officer Mohd Sharafudin Yaakob said rescuers were deployed to the scene after receiving a distress call.

"Upon arrival at the location, it was reported that a tree was uprooted and had pinned down a car with a victim inside.

"However, the victim successfully managed to free himself before the rescue team arrived," he said in a statement today.

Sharafudin added that the rescue team provided initial treatment to the victim before transporting him to Yan Hospital in an ambulance.

"We are also in the process of cutting the uprooted tree at the scene to clear the passage," he added.
