Visit Perak Year 2024: More than RM20m for upgrading facilities, promotions

IPOH: About RM20.6 million has been allocated for upgrading of tourism facilities and promotion efforts in conjunction with Visit Perak Year (TMP) 2024, according to state executive councillor Loh Sze Yee.

The state government will be providing RM10.5 million of this amount, with RM3.8 million to be spent on upgrading works in 12 districts and the rest for campaigns to promote TMP 2024, said Loh, who is in charge of tourism, industries, investment and corridor development.

"The state government has also been allocated a total of RM9.09 million in stages by the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry (Motac) involving 35 projects on upgrading, preservation and renovation of tourism areas.

"Motac has also given an additional allocation of RM1 million for promotion purposes," he told a press conference here today (September 27).

Loh said the restoration and upgrading projects included works at the Lenggong Valley World Heritage Site, Victoria Bridge, British colonial-era ecotourism construction in Selama and Heritage Town in Gerik.

In May this year, Loh said that TMP 2024 was expected to attract 8.35 million domestic and international tourists and generate more than RM10 billion in revenue.Loh said greater emphasis would be given to developing new tourism products and packages, with the main contributors being Mirror Lake, Silverlake Village Outlet, Galeri Rumah Lat, Qi Xi Ling Cultural Village, Maze Garden, Escape@Ipoh and Lenggong Geopark.

He also said the Fiesta Warisan Budaya @ Sungai Siput would be held at the Kampung Bahagia Recreation Park in Sungai Siput on October 8.

The one-day event will feature people's sports, an art and culture clinic, a traditional buskers competition and the sale of products from small and medium industries.

He said about 3,000 visitors were expected to attend the activities to be held from 8am to 11pm. – Bernama
