Another 3,164 summonses were issued under K257, which are issued to offenders face-to-face.

He said last year, 46 per cent of foreigners issued with summonses paid the fines.

When providing a breakdown of the figures last year, Ayob said six per cent or 921 foreigners issued with K170A summonses last year had paid the fines.

Forty percent or 1,262 foreigners issued with K257 summonses paid the fines last year.

When elaborating on the fines paid this year, Ayob said 34 per cent or 921 of foreigners issued with K170A notices paid the summonses, while 37 per cent or 782 foreigners issued with K257 notices paid the fines.

He said 4,862 summonses were issued to foreigners between January and August this year.

On a related issue, he said police conducted an operation called the Foreign Nationals Outstanding Summons Operation in Kelantan, Johor, Perlis, Kedah and Perak.

It has also launched an operation focusing on commercial vehicles following a fatal accident in Putrajaya recently.

Two people were killed while six others were injured in an accident involving 12 vehicles on Persiaran Utara.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner A Asmadi Abdul Aziz had said the crash involved five cars, two motorcycles, a traffic police motorcycle, one lorry, and one trailer.

Closed circuit television (CCTV) recordings showed that a line of vehicles had stopped when a trailer came from behind.

The trailer was changing from the middle lane to the left and crashed into the cars in front, he said.

The two individuals were pronounced dead on the scene by paramedics from Putrajaya Hospital and Sultan Idris Shah Hospital in Serdang.

Police had also said that the two who died were two men aged 25 and 39, who were on the two motorcycles.

On Sept 25, the 29-year-old lorry driver in the crash was charged in the Putrajaya magistrate's court for reckless driving.
