More than 500 Orang Asli affected by tiger threat receive MAIK donation

KOTA BARU: The Kelantan Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIK) today handed over food baskets worth about RM73,000 to the Orang Asli community affected by the tiger threat.

A simple ceremony to hand over the food baskets was held at MAIK office here today, and more than 500 Orang Asli in two settlements will receive the aid.

Presenting the baskets to Kelantan/Terengganu Orang Asli Development Department (JAKOA) director Zarina Razlan was MAIK president Tengku Tan Sri Mohamad Rizam Tengku Abdul Aziz.

Tengku Rizam said the affected Orang Asli were from Pos Bihai and Pos Belatim.

"The plight suffered by Orang Asli following the tiger threats recently has touched the heart of the council.

"We hope that the food baskets will ease their burden and that the tiger threat issue be solved soon," he told reporters here today.

Thanking MAIK for the donation, Zarina said the food baskets would help the Orang Asli community who had been badly affected by tiger threats, especially in terms of food.

"Since they are unable to go out to search for food, such donations would really help them in a big way," she added.

Later, Tengku Rizam, who is the Tengku Temenggung of Kelantan, flagged off a convoy involving several MAIK vehicles to send the donation to Gua Musang.
