Selangor govt agrees to declassify Batang Kali landslide report

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government has agreed to declassify the full report on the deadly landslide which took place at the Father's Organic Farm in Batang Kali, last December.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the detailed report will also be submitted to the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma).

"We can now hand it over to Nadma so that they can display it on their website or share it with those who need to know.

"This will be decided upon by the authorities as the report is very technical.

"Displaying it on the Nadma website would allow everyone to view it and take subsequent action. It is a technical report detailing how the landslide took place," he told reporters today.

He said the name of the campsite owner is also contained in the report as well as a number of affected areas such as forests and road reserves.

Victims as well as next-of-kin of those who perished in the incident had previously asked the government to declassify the full report to enable follow-up action to be taken.

The tragedy which took place at 2.30am on Dec 16 had involved 92 victims.

From the total, 31 died while 61 survived.

In January, Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad had said that the full report has already been presented to the cabinet.
