Education ministry to introduce EV course at vocational colleges 

KUALA LUMPUR: To support the National Automotive Policy (NAP), the Education Ministry will introduce a course related to electric vehicles (EV) called Hybrid Automotive Technology and Electric Vehicle (EV), the Dewan Rakyat was told today.   

 Deputy Education Minister Lim Hui Ying said the course is set to commence in 2026 at the Pengerang Vocational College (KV) in Johor.   

 "Infrastructure planning is underway to ensure that this course  can be completed within the established timeline.   

 "At the same time, the elements of Hybrid Automotive Technology and Electric Vehicle (EV) and Robotic Technology, which are currently integrated into the curriculum at 53 vocational colleges offering Automotive Technology programmes will further enhance the students' knowledge of the latest technology," she said in reply to a question from Zahir Hassan (PH-Wangsa Maju).   

 Zahir asked about the ministry's plan to increase the number of vocational colleges that offer skills courses in the electric vehicles (EV) industry.   

 Lim added that currently, KV Setapak offers courses related to automotive technology that incorporates EV elements.  

 "The ministry will ensure that TVET graduates are relevant to future employment by ensuring that the curriculum content for diploma programmes offered at vocational colleges is aligned with the latest technology, in line with the developments of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR4.0) through a new curriculum redesign."
