Loke: MYAirline should step forward and discuss problems with ministry

KUALA LUMPUR: MYAirline Sdn Bhd will need to come to the Transport Ministry through Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) if they have any problems, said its minister Anthony Loke.

"So far they have to come to us first (if they have problems). I mean, we will look at their problems (where the ministry will help) in terms of facilitation in terms of licensing, regulatory support.

"We will try to facilitate and give them a bit of room but they have to come to us to tell us what their problems are," he said.

When asked by reporters to comment over the rumours of the cash-strapped airline's effort to secure a new investor as it weathers through a financial storm, Loke said he has not received any information about it.

"As of now, I have not received any information from Mavcom. I don't know whether they are selling (the airline) to whom or who will take over it. That is beyond me.

"If there are any changes, stakeholders or others, surely it needs to be informed to Mavcom," he told reporters at a press conference after chairing the National Aviation Consultative Council meeting, here.

Earlier today, Business Times reported that the low-cost is believed to be close to securing a new investor, potentially Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg's son Abang Abdillah Izzarim Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari, as the cash-strapped airline weathers through a financial storm.

This comes after the airline's chief executive officer (CEO), Rayner Teo had tendered his resignation last week, citing health reasons.

There were also talks that the carrier is facing financial issues as payments to its service providers, including Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) were either delayed or remain unpaid.

It was also believed that staff salaries were also not paid on time for several months.
