Twin sisters' fatal accident shatters mother's heart

PASIR SALAK: Siti Masyitah Talkah, the mother of twin sisters who met a tragic end in an accident on Jalan Kampung Gajah - Tanjung Tualang, near Kampung Changkat Rambai, is grappling with an unimaginable loss.

Just as she had returned from Umrah, she received the heart-wrenching news that her two children, Nur Zuhaida and Nur Shahidah Abdull Karim, aged 33, were gone forever.

The incident unfolded around 11.30am when the car they were in collided with a sports utility vehicle (SUV), resulting in their death.

Siti Masyitah, 71, had just returned to Malaysia and was at her second daughter's home in Banting, Selangor, for a brief respite before returning to her residence in Felcra Seberang Perak.

It was there that she received the devastating news about her twin daughters.

"I don't know how to describe the feeling at that time. I wanted to scream. People can advise us to be patient, but it's us who bear the sadness of losing two children," she said when met at her home.

The grieving mother immediately rushed back to Perak to see the faces of her twin daughters for the last time.

Siti Masyitah shared that the twins were returning from a dermatologist's clinic in Tanjung Tualang to their home.

Little did she know that her early morning phone conversation with Nur Shahidah, who was seeking medical attention for a skin condition, would be their last exchange.

"She was waiting for her sister, Zuhaida, who just completed her night shift. They were close from childhood, even working together in a rubber glove factory in Lekir.

Siti Masyitah said Allah had destined that the two were born together, and now, they left the world together,

The twins assumed the responsibility of caring for their mother five years ago after their father, Abdull Karim Salleh, died in 2018 due to old age.

Their devotion was unwavering, and when asked about marriage, they always responded: 'If we get married, who will take care of mom?"

Siti Masyitah described her daughters as loving and obedient children.

"They would do everything I asked. When it comes to cooking, they would tell me to leave the task to them and told me to rest," Siti Masyitah shared, reminiscing about their last meeting on Sept 23 during a "kenduri" before her trip to the Holy Land.

After the Isha prayer, the twins were buried at the Changkat Lada Muslim cemetery.

Meanwhile, Perak police chief Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the initial investigation at the accident site indicated the car the twins were in tried to overtake a vehicle in front of them before the head-on collision with the SUV in the opposite lane.
