KL City Hall shuts down dirty restaurants and eateries

KUALA LUMPUR: Two eateries were ordered to close following an unsatisfactory level of cleanliness during Operasi Sepadu Bersih that was carried out in and around the city yesterday.

Kuala Lumpur City Hall (City Hall) issued a statement informing of the enforcement action taken after finding out that the two eateries were found to be lacking in terms of cleanliness.

"This includes food materials being left on dirty, filthy floors, the presence of rubbish, waste and dirt such as rat droppings in the kitchen and in the back alley of the premised which had been converted and used to prepare food.

"The order to cease and stop operating falls under Section 11 of the Food Act 1983 and the 2016 UUK 28(1) Food Establishment Licensing By-law (Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur)," said the statement.

City Hall said that yesterday's operation was carried out by 52 officers and personnel from the Health and Environment Department at 41 premises in Bandar Baru Seri Petaling, Jalan Pasai, Jalan Radin Anum 2, Jalan Dutamas 1 and L2 at the Hartamas Shopping Centre.

The operation was also carried out along Jalan Raja Muda Musa Kampung Baru, Jalan Ampang, Jalan Landak and Jalan Brunei.

"During the operation, we also issued 57 compounds for various offences under the 2016 UUK 28(1) Food Establishment Licensing By-law (Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur), and the Local Government Act 1976.

"Enforcement action was taken against premises that failed to meet and adhere to health requirements and guidelines.

"This includes owners and workers who failed to get vaccinated against typhoid and attend courses on the proper ways of handling food, not installing oil traps and having oil traps that are not well maintained leading to blockage, and foul odour and smells," he said.

Other offences detected were dirty and filthy kitchen floors and walls, and expired business licenses.
