PAC to issue report on Covid-19 outbreak probe on Oct 30, says Mas Ermieyati

KUALA LUMPUR: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) will table its report on the management of the Covid-19 outbreak probe on Oct 30.

PAC chairman Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said the committee held a meeting to prepare the report on the management of the Covid-19 outbreak, including expired vaccines, unusable ventilator equipment, and surplus of personal protective equipment (PPE) under the Health Ministry on Oct 16 and 17.

"This issue was reported in the Auditor-General's Report (LKAN) 2021 Series 2 and it was also debated during the second session of the 15th Parliament on June 6," she told a press conference in parliament today.

She said the PAC proceedings took place on June 15, Aug 22, Sept 14 and Sept 21, with 12 witnesses being called up by the committee.

Those called up were former transport minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong; Auditor-General Datuk Wan Suraya Wan Mohd Radzi; Deputy Auditor-General Patimah Ramuji (Performance); Health Ministry deputy secretary-general (Finance) Datuk Seri Norazman Ayob; two former Health Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Chen Chaw Min (in service from July 4, 2015 to Feb 3, 2021) and Datuk Seri Mohd Shafiq Abdullah (in service from Feb 11, 2021 to Feb 9, 2022) and former Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

Also called were the Health Ministry's Medical Services Development division head Datin Seri Dr Asmah Samat; Pharmaniaga Bhd chairman Izaddeen Daud; former Pharmaniaga Bhd managing director Datuk Farshila Emran and Pharmaniaga Bhd chief operating officer.

During the press conference, Mas Ermieyati also announced that proceedings for the probe into the Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp) would take place on Oct 23.

Meanwhile, Mas Ermieyati explained that the proceedings regarding Felcra Bhd, which were scheduled to be held yesterday, had been postponed as WZR Property Sdn Bhd Datuk Wan Nadzir Wan Mohamad was abroad.

She added that PAC needs his testimony and explanation to conduct a fair investigation into the matter.
