ALOR STAR: An underaged girl's joyride in a car belonging to her friend's mother ended on tragic note when she rammed into a motorcycle, killing a 32-year-old woman and injuring the victim's sister in Kuala Kedah yesterday.

Kota Setar acting police chief Superintendent Syed Basri Syed Ali said in the 7pm incident along Jalan Kuala Kedah, the victim Nur Shafiqah Abdullah, was killed on the spot while her elder sister Nooraliza Abdullah, 43, suffered multiple injuries.

"The incident occurred near a fuel station when the sisters were travelling on a motorcycle from the Taman Bersatu traffic light towards Kuala Kedah while the Proton Satria driven by the 14-year-old girl was travelling from the opposite direction.

"It is believed that the girl lost control of the car while driving during the rain, sending the vehicle swerving into the opposite direction before crashing into the victims' motorcycle.

"Initial investigation showeds that the incident was caused by the car driver's reckless driving which causing her to lose control of the vehicle," he said when contacted.

He added that the girl, a school dropout and unemployed, survived with minor injury to her nose.

Syed Basri said checks showed that the car belonged to her friend's mother and police will be taking action against the car owner for allowing a minor to drive the vehicle.

Police are urging witnesses to come forward to assist the investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
