Perak Floods: Number of evacuees rises to 245 this morning

IPOH: The number of flood evacuees in the districts of Hilir Perak and Kerian has increased to 245 people, from 77 families, currently placed at three temporary flood relief centres (PPS), compared with 182 people, from 59 families, as reported yesterday (October 24).

The State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat said that in Hilir Perak district a total of 185 people, from 59 families, are housed at Padang Tembak multipurpose hall, involving residents from Lorong Kedah, Lorong Belakang Klinik, Batu 9 Simpang Tiga, Batu 7, Batu 9, Batu 10 and Lorong Sidang Osman.

"A total of 41 people, from 15 families, are placed at the Teluk Intan Municipal Council (MPTI) hall, Langkap. They are from Kampung Kilang Kacang and Kampung Batu 9 Changkat Jong," it said in a statement.

"The Sekolah Kebangsaan Changkat Lobak relief centre in Kerian currently accommodates 19 people, from three families, from Kampung Matang Tengah.

Meanwhile, thunderstorms are expected to occur this afternoon in several districts, including Kinta, Kuala Kangsar, Muallim, Bagan Datuk, Hilir Perak and Perak Tengah.

Also, the state Public Works Department (PWD) said that Jalan Kubu Gajah Ijok-Sumpitan in Selama has been closed to all vehicles due to landslides, while Jalan Pintasan Kampung Sumpitan-Kampung Masjid was used as an alternative route. --BERNAMA
