Sultan of Terengganu chairs 263rd Conference of Rulers meeting

KUALA LUMPUR: The Sultan of Terengganu Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin chaired the 263rd (Special) Meeting of the Conference of Rulers today to elect the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong at the National Palace.

The meeting, which began at 10.10am, was attended by the current Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and all Malay Rulers, except those from Kelantan and Perlis.

Among the Malay Rulers in attendance were the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, and the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

Also present were the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah, the Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Ibni Almarhum Tuanku Munawir, and the Sultan of Kedah, Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah.

Prior to the meeting, the Malay Rulers took commemorative photos before commencing the meeting and the selection process.

The special meeting concluded approximately an hour later, and the election results are expected to be announced by the Keeper of the Rulers' Seal later this evening.

This election follows the five-year term of Al-Sultan Abdullah as the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, which is set to end on Jan 30 next year.

Al-Sultan Abdullah took his oath and signed the letter of appointment as the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong on Jan 31, 2019, after being appointed during a Special Meeting of the Conference of Rulers on Jan 24 of the same year.
