POKOK SENA: A 74-year-old man was crushed to death after an uprooted tree fell on his car at Kampung Bukit Payong in Pokok Sena here today.
In the 5.20pm incident, strong winds accompanying heavy rain uprooted the tree, causing it to crash onto the driver's side of the deceased's Hyundai.
Pokok Sena Fire and Rescue Department officer Shahrin Musa said that the department's rescue team had to employ specialised equipment and a bulldozer to extract the victim.
"A rescue team, along with a KI-17 vehicle, was immediately dispatched to the scene upon receiving distress calls.
"Upon arrival, rescuers found a male senior citizen trapped inside the vehicle and was unconscious," he said in a statement today.
He noted the victim was later confirmed dead by Health Ministry officers.
"The deceased's remains have been handed over to the police for further action.
"We also conducted tree cutting operations to clear out the road using a chainsaw," he added.
