PM Anwar issues strong warning on Israel link slander

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today issued a stern warning to certain quarters attempting to link him with Israel, saying that it was slander.

During the prime minister's question time in Dewan Rakyat today, Anwar said he would not tolerate any disrespectful statements made towards him that violate decorum.

"(I) will also not hesitate to take strong action against anyone if such slander is repeated," said Anwar.

Anwar was responding to a report published by Harakah previously which claimed that Malaysia, under Anwar's administration, is hesitant to show support for Palestine.

"Making slanders while wearing a 'serban' is not acceptable and I strongly oppose it.

"(And) this (the slander) is what I call building a castle on the grave. People are dying and we work every day to bring the case (to justice) by calling for the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to hold a conference and discussions with other counterparts like China, Russia, Brazil, Ireland and Japan," he said.

At the same time, he also urged that the Palestine-Israel conflict not be politicised by any quarters.

"In July 2023, the issue of Palestinian rights was raised at The Hague International Court of Justice and Malaysia supported the Palestinian cause.

"Hence, please comprehend the issue and do not manipulate it for political purposes.

"Regardless of party, everyone must come together to show support so that the people and the world know that Malaysia is united in supporting the struggles of the Palestinians."
