Malaysia re-elected as APCERT steering committee member for 2023-2025 term

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia, through CyberSecurity Malaysia, has been re-elected as a Steering Committee member and to the deputy chair position of the Asia Pacific Computer Emergency Response Team (APCERT) for the 2023-2025 term.

The election was held at the APCERT Annual General Meeting (AGM) online on Wednesday (November 8).

CyberSecurity Malaysia said today (November 10) that it also received the APCERT 2023 Award at the AGM when it was recognised as the most active member in contributing to the collaboration platform.

According to CyberSecurity Malaysia, the election was made based on Malaysia's experience, having previously held the post of deputy chair of APCERT for four consecutive sessions after being first elected in 2007.

"With this election, CyberSecurity Malaysia will continue to be a member of the APCERT Steering Committee, which also comprises Computer Emergency Response Teams from Australia, China, South Korea, China, Taiwan, Japan and Sri Lanka," it said in a statement.

Communications and Digital Minister, Fahmi Fadzil, said in the same statement that Malaysia's re-election to the post of deputy chair of APCERT reflected the belief of APCERT members in the competence and capabilities of CyberSecurity Malaysia in leading the field of cybersecurity at the international level.

"Meanwhile, the 2023 APCERT Award, is in recognition of the country's efforts, determination and commitment in dealing with cyber threats in the Asia Pacific region," he said.

CyberSecurity Malaysia was the founding organisation of APCERT in 2002 and remained a member of the APCERT Steering Committee since its establishment and will continue until 2025. – Bernama
