Amanah to elect top 5 leaders, committee members today

KLANG: Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) will elect its top five leaders and other committee members in its party polls today.

Held in conjunction with its annual national convention, the party election sees 124 candidates vying for the five top
positions as well as 27 seats in its National Leadership Committee.

Party president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu is leading the list of the candidates.

Other personalities vying for positions are its vice-presidents, Senator Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa and Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari, as well as party strategy director Datuk Seri Dr Zulkefly Ahmad.

It will be Mohamad's last term to helm the party if he is re-elected at this convention.

According to the party's constitution, the top five positions, including the presidency, are determined by consensus by the 27 top leaders to be elected by the delegates, and a person can only be president for three consecutive terms.

Mohamad opened the two-day convention and delivered his presidential speech at 10am yesterday.

Delegates have also been debating the presidential speech since yesterday.

Amanah has more than 200,000 members.

The itinerary for the convention includes a special briefing on the current development in Palestine by a representative from the Malaysian Consultative Council for Islamic Organisations (Mapim).

It will then be followed by the presentation and debate of motions by delegates before the election for the Amanah National Leadership Committee 2023-2026 is held today.
