PETALING JAYA: Fate took its course when the ties between Kishanthini Sinappan and Mohd Ameerul Iman Mohd Ariff, initially close friends, blossomed into love before they were finally united in matrimony earlier this month.
Their story gained attention when Kishanthini, 27, shared a TikTok video with her husband, Mohd Ameerul Iman, 29, capturing the hearts of netizens who celebrated the union of the lovely cross-cultural couple.
Elaborating on their journey, Kishanthini revealed that they started as colleagues, often spending time together over shared meals. "He wasn't just a good friend; he was also my lunch buddy for two years before progressing to the next stage as a couple.
Last April, he surprised me with a proposal, and we tied the knot after seven months. Our families blessed and supported our marriage," she shared in an interview with Harian Metro.
According to Kishanthini, the main reason she was drawn to Mohd Ameerul Iman was his understanding and acceptance of her as a person.
Their friendship, understanding, and compatibility further solidified their relationship.
"With him, I can be myself without trying too hard to get his attention. He doesn't expect me to change, and honestly, I feel fortunate to have both a good friend and a life partner in him," she said.
Kishanthini had anticipated marrying someone from a different ethnic background, having grown up mingling with friends of diverse races and religions. She found comfort in spending time with someone from a different cultural background.
"For me, interracial marriages are beautiful as they allow two different cultures to harmonise and embrace each other's differences. It truly represents the spirit of Malaysia, as we hope for a better Malaysia for future generations through this intercultural marriage. Additionally, we get to enjoy all celebrations, broaden our understanding, and expose ourselves to different cultures," she added.
Reflecting on the unexpected viral nature of their story, Kishanthini admitted her surprise, noting that this wasn't the first time she had shared their story publicly. However, the positive and negative comments have not impacted their daily lives or routines.
"Regardless, I hope our union lasts forever, never ceasing to love and respect each other, always remembering the promises made at the beginning of our marriage," she said.
