'Don't panic, no TB outbreak in Cheras', says Health Minister

PUTRAJAYA: There is no outbreak of tuberculosis (TB) in Cheras, said the Health Ministry today.

Telling the public not to panic, Health Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa said the TB situation is "under control".

"There are TB incidences in Malaysia, but the public health department is monitoring it.

"We do not want something untrue to be spread and we don't want the public to panic.

"There are cases of TB in the country, but it is under control."

She told this to reporters after the National World Antimicrobial Awareness Week 2023 here, today.

In the past week, photographs of notices from residential managements warning of TB cases in the area had been spread on social media.

Among others, a notice purportedly from the Laman Midah Apartment management, dated Nov 15, had said the Cheras Health Department had confirmed an outbreak in the area as at Nov 10.

The notice listed several areas including Taman Pertama (10 cases), Kampung Cheras Baru (19 cases), Taman Muda KL (22 cases), Taman Lembah Maju (19 cases), Taman Cahaya (15 cases), Pudu (18 cases) and Fraser Business Park (15 cases).

Dr Zaliha added that the public can check for the number of TB cases in the area through their MySejahtera app.

"I advise anyone who is unwell, has symptoms such as a persistent cough to get themselves treated," she added.
